World Youth Day is an extraordinary gift to the Church in Australia.

It is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience this great gathering of young people from around the world on our own shores, in our own homes and in our parish communities.

Activ8 is the name given to the pastoral programme of events, activities and materials developed by WYD08 to prepare our young people across the Dioceses in our parishes, youth groups, schools and homes for World Youth Day 2008 in Sydney.

Drawn from Acts 1 v8, the scriptural reference of the WYD08 theme chosen by the Holy Father, Activ8 has a twofold purpose:

• to unite all the elements of the pastoral preparation, and
• to call on each of us to 'activate' those elements in personal commitment to World Youth Day 2008

You will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you will be my witnesses. (Acts1:8)

WYD08 has produced a booklet outlining each of the elements of our Activ8 program. Copies of the booklet have been distributed to each of the WYD08 Diocesan and Youth Ministry representatives who will in turn provide copies to parishes, youth groups, agencies and other organisations in the diocese.

The WYD08 Education Committee representatives will also be making sure that each Australian school receives a copy of the booklet early in term 3 this year.
